PLU dance team hosts winter dance showcase for the second time ever

Pacific Lutheran University’s Dance Team will host their 2nd annual Winter Dance Showcase, Dec.5, 2014.

The dance team will perform a handful of new choreography during this year’s Winter Showcase. Although the team has not performed a hip-hop routine for some time, the team’s 16 dancers will showcase their technical talents through a diverse set of dance pieces.

Miranda Winter, co-captain of the team, is optimistic for the unique showcase.

“We have picked up choreography very quickly, and have learned six pieces in under three months,” said Miranda Winter.

The team’s intense preparation has motivated the dancers to impress the audience with student-choreographed routines, as well as a new routine from guest choreographer, Sarah Sharits.

“The variety of styles and emotions represented this year in the showcase will be a real treat for the audience,” said Miranda Winter. “Dance team hasn’t performed a hip-hop routine in a handful of years, the modern and lyrical pieces are beautiful, and the overall level of technique in all of the dances is impressive.”

Students, staff, family, and friends can attend the Winter Showcase, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre Lobby located in the Karen Hille Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can be purchased for $5.

Pacific Lutheran University’s Dance Team operates on student leadership, and consists of dedicated dancers who perform a wide array of dance styles ranging from jazz, funk, modern, to synchronized movement.
