Facebook encourages a younger audience to access news

Facebook and NewsWhile most people might go to Facebook to check in with friends or update a status, statistics show that the more often people are on Facebook, the more likely they are to read news articles.

Thirty percent of adult Facebook users consume news on each visit to the site. The more time spent on the site only increases the amount of news being accessed, as reported August 2013 by Pew Center for the Press.

People who use Facebook for at least an hour every day (67 percent), read and view a larger amount of news than those who are on the site for less than an hour.

The quality of the news is judged differently depending on how dedicated someone is to consuming news.  For those that view themselves as heavy news consumers, only 38 percent thought Facebook news was important.

Statistics gathered from Pew Research Center.
