The PLU Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team has a high stakes weekend coming up.
On April 20-21the women of PLU Reign will be competing with six other teams from Washington and Oregon for the Conference Championships.
The team expects a good showing of competition this weekend. However they don’t place in the top two, their season will be over.
Whitman, Willamette, Puget Sound, Lewis and Clark, Reed, and Portland are the teams that will be competing with PLU Reign for a bid to Division I Regionals this year.
Coming off of a strong showing at their home tournament in March, the PLU BBQ, the Women’s team hopes to place first or second at the Conference Tournament this upcoming weekend.
Although the road to Nationals was cut short this year due to various hardships with funding and not enough commitment to justify the journey to Milwaukee, the women of PLU Reign hope to compete at D I Regionals in Eugene this year.
The PLU Women’s Reign coach Marissa Lyons has high hopes for this weekend. Lyons’ goal for the team is to attend D I Regionals and upset as many teams as possible.
Although Division I schools are traditionally very highly athletic and competitive, both Lyons and the PLU women’s Reign team believes that they may be able to keep up with some of the top notch competitors.
Playing against even higher level teams like the University of Washington and the University of Oregon is only something that is going to make the team better in the years to come.
Come out and support the PLU Women’s Reign team as they compete for a spot at D1 Regionals. Games start at 9:00 on Saturday, April 20 at Heritage Fields in Puyallup.
